Hi everyone! I hope you're doing well. So while in quarantine, I thought of to finally create a Disney themed jacket to wear at the Disney parks! I've been talking about wanting to create one for years!! I've seen these at the parks from groups that have similar jackets, Disney ~influences~, and on social media like Instagram and Pinterest. You can create yours however way you want it and with whatever patches and accessories you want with it. I decided to do an all girl inspired jacket, so like Minnie Mouse, Daisy, and empowered awesome girls I love from Disney! I thought it would be a fun and easy thing to do that would be difficult to mess up. Here's the way I did mine and what I used!
Denim Jacket- Target
I knew I wanted to get an oversized denim jacket so I can wear with whatever I wanted and to have that relaxed look. You can use whatever jacket you want and it doesn't matter on the price!
I purchased all of my patches mainly from Etsy and Amazon because they were easy, had a variety of choices, and were fast to receive! I had a theme in mind so it was easy to search what I was looking for! Patches prices can range from below a dollar to like $10, depends on the quality, size, and detailing! Also, I only used iron on patches for it to be easy and quick to do and I do not know how to sew! Most of the patches worked well and stayed on, however I had to use fabric glue to reinforce some of the patches, like the Tangled sun and Jessie. Iron on patches are linked below.
Rapunzel's sun (similar)
Girl Power Heart
Minnie Mouse bow (similar)
Mickey glove (similar)
It took me a couple weeks to receive all of my materials and to completely finish, partly because I didn't work on it very often and waiting for patches to come in the mail.
When I did work on this, all I did was..
1. Layout clothing piece on a flat surface
2. Plug in your iron and turn it on
3. Place your patches where you would like them.
4. Apply iron on patch for 30 seconds on the front and back of clothing item.
5. Let patches cool off. If patches do not stay on and come off easily, you could try ironing it again or apply fabric glue to the back onto the patch.
I haven't visited Downtown Disney since it's reopening this summer because of the pandemic and have been wanting to go back! I knew I wanted to take photos in this jacket once it was completed! I really love my custom, individualized jacket that I can wear at the parks and not at the parks! I even work at a pre-school and I feel like the young kids will love the characters on my jacket!
Blog post coming soon about my experiences back at Downtown Disney and Buena Vista street in DCA!
Thank you so much for reading this post! Reminding you that you can create whatever you want and completely make it your own to show off your interests and personality!
