Things That I Miss From The 90s & 2000s

Picture
Hello friends, I hope everyone is doing great! In light of the official announcement of the Jonas Brothers getting back together, I am discussing all about my childhood favorites and things that people could miss from those years. There are too many to talk about so I am discussing highlights of each category. And yes I will be talking about the Jonas Brothers fandom back in the day.
Also, check out these awesome 90s and 2000s playlists on Spotify, including mine!
Mine: Favorite Throwbacks
1990s and 2000s

FOOD

Lunchables

Picture
Okay these were one of the best cold lunches to ever bring to school. I begged my mom every week to get me one at the store to bring to school and I always had a hard time picking out which one to get. I liked to switch it up between the turkey, cheese, and crackers one, the iconic cold mini pizzas, and the nachos! And really though, we ate these hot and heated them up in a microwave? I don't think anyone in elementary school had a microwave accessible to them in the lunchroom!
I ran a poll for the heated debate on the nachos versus pizza Lunchables and the results were 53% for pizza and 47% for nacho, making Pizza the superior Lunchable to all!

Girl POWER

Destiny's Child

Picture
Yes, yes, YES! The queens of r&b empowered women and girls all over the world in the 90s and served serious trends. They had their camo, military moment in the 'Survivor' music video and these metallic outfits looking like Charlie's Angels! These girls created powerful, rhythmic songs that still play today on the radio and at shows, like the iconic "Say My Name" and "Lose My Breath". When they came out to perform at Coachella in 2018, people FLIPPED OUT and the whole crowd bursted out singing along to their hits!

 Hilary Duff

Picture
Disney's pop princess herself! Hilary Duff and Raven Symone were a lot of us girls favorite shows and icons. They showed uptime girl power! I used to constantly listen to Hilary Duff's pop, angst albums like Metamorphasis and watch the iconic Lizzie McGuire Movie. So many girls growing up watched the quirky, relatable Lizzie McGuire TV show on Disney Channel and wanted their own friends like Miranda and Gordo and wanted to be in Aaron Carter's 'I Want Candy' music video. Hilary Duff still does television and released music in 2015.

The Cheetah Girls

Picture
These girls were fierce and the fastest in the jungle and on Disney Channel! Those matching track suits symbolized girl power and friendship in the 2000s while they danced in the streets of New York. The Cheetah Girls were massive on Disney Channel and made 3 movies traveling the world and singing about female empowerment, not needing no man, and having the best friends.

Toys

Bratz Dolls// Polly Pocket Dolls

Picture

I'm not talking about the trending Bratz challenge on Youtube, I'm here to talk about the Bratz dolls themselves. So many of my friends played with these dolls and we would play with them for hours! They were fashionable dolls with HUGE eyes and lips and the longest hair. They came out in 2001 and were very popular for a couple of years. They had themed outfits and even made boy dolls like Cameron with matching outfits as the girls. I am not sure if the Bratz dolls are out today but I feel like they would still be a hit with kids because of the challenge trending on Youtube from Sister James Charles!

Polly Pockets were made in 1989 and is still out today! They have evolved over the years and they can have different clothes and accessories.

MASH game

Picture
The funniest, pettiest game to play in class with your friends when you're bored. It takes me back to making the game with my best friend and putting down our favorite crushes and our dream houses!

TV SHOWS

Picture
Picture
These two shows definitely stand out to me from my these two decades! The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Boy Meets World were classic growing up, teen tv shows that so many loved watching. The two shows were hilarious and had memorable moments in their stories. One showed a family grow from adding a nephew into their family home in their Bel-Air, fancy home and the other showed a group of best friends grow from middle school to creating their own families and having relatable situations for their audience. And of course for the "FEENY" call from the older brother!! I always watched these shows when they were on reruns and they're still very funny and relevant to today's world!

Music

Spice girls

Picture
These 5 girls are revolutionary! So many great hits came from the trendy, spunky Spice Girls who all girls over the world wanted to be! They always had the coolest outfits and they honestly looked like dolls to me, but in a cool way, with their platform boots and fun mini dresses. They were so cool, so fashionable, and so carefree and I loved them when I was in elementary school with my friends. They had 4 top ten hits on Billboard and they are definitely known for their girl empowered song 'Wannabe' and for their film "Spice World"! They are touring this summer and I think it would definitely be a blast from the past to see the Spice Girls live.

Styles

Matching BFF Outfits

Picture
Twinning definitely happened often with your childhood bff when you were younger and everyone went through it. Honestly, it makes for great, funny memories to look back on with that friend and remember your or your parents' fashion choices! My favorite ones were matching silly graphic tees and matching dresses or outfits when going to a dinner or party. The other day, I saw a group of elementary girls matched head to toe for a dance that they were going to and it made me remember all of the outfits I wore to match with my best friends thinking we were the COOLEST. Kids still do this and I think it's so funny and nice to see kids still wanting to look identical and to 'twin' with their friends to have a good time!

Hair clips

Picture
Ah yes, these little things tugged my hair so much and hurt! You could always find these clips at the neon color filled store, Claire's and at any super store!

The Battle of the Boy Bands

*Nsync// Backstreet Boys

Picture
Picture
It's go time!! This was a time when society really divided between the two boy pop groups with their boy next door and street looks. Honestly, both groups made amazing hits and were very talented!

JONAS Brothers//One DIrection

Picture
Picture
Okay so here is my opinion really steps in, obviously the Jonas Brothers have my heart forever and ever and One Direction loses in the best group category in the 2000s 😉 BECAUSE the Jonas Brothers have reunited this month and are releasing new music as a band! I'm beyond excited and proud of them and can't wait to hear all of their new music and see them perform on hopefully a tour! Sorry Directioners!! Each group though in the 2000s released great, memorable hits that all of their fans enjoy like 'Burnin' Up' and 'What Makes You Beautiful'! Cheers to great hair dos and reunions, kids!!

Thanks for reading and reminiscing on the good times and trends of the 1990s and 2000s! Let me know what your favorite things were from those decades and don't forget to share this post to friends!

There are so many things in here that I miss from the 90s and 2000s!! I was recently cleaning out my childhood room and I came across my collection of butterfly clips from the 90s. I was so excited! I have put them all away to use them again at some stage. I also miss Hilary Duff (my favourite movie is a Cinderella Story!), Spice Girls and Destinys Child. And all those boy bands. NSYNC was always my favourite. Haha I used to twin with my older sister. We had matching dungarees. People thought we were twins, even though she was much taller than me.

Haha oh so much nostalgia! That took me back. I loved my butterfly hair clips, Backstreet Boys, and Clarissa Explains It All. When I babysit my nephew him and I share lunchables haha.
